PIP Implant Update 21/12/11

There have been a number of media reports regarding the 'recall' of potentially defective implants that have been used across the UK and Ireland. These implants were made by a French manufacturer that are no longer in business known as Poly Implants Protheses (PIP).

Mr Fogarty has always espoused safety first and has NEVER USED PIP IMPLANTS IN HIS CAREER. The implants that he uses in his practice have the greatest safety record to date. Mr Fogarty has/does use only 2 types of silicone breast implants, either Natrelle (aka McGhan, Allergan) OR Mentor

Brendan Fogarty, Consultant plastic surgeon and lead clinician for burn surgery at the Royal Victoria Hospital and the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children.

Mr Fogarty is an accredited plastic surgeon on the GMCs specialist register for plastic surgery and a member of British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (BAAPs) and BAPRAS (formerly known as BAPS, and is a regional BAAPS mentor/trainer in aesthetic surgery to junior consultants.

Mr Fogarty graduated from Queen's University Belfast and during his plastic surgery training has worked in London, Bristol and Belfast. Mr Fogarty has a subspecialist interest in cosmetic surgery and during his subspecialty training in aesthetic surgery was the aesthetic surgery fellow at the King Edward the VII hospital, London in 2004.

Mr Fogarty also featured as the focus of BBC Northern Ireland's "Superdocs" program on plastic and reconstructive surgery aired in December 2009.
